Australian Ringed Gidgee and Resin Platter

$300.00

Australian Ringed Gidgee and blue resin platter.  The platter is 38cm in diameter.

Australian Ringed Gidgee and blue resin platter.  Gidgee is a member of the Acacia family of trees.  It comes from the arid regions of New South Wales and Queensland and is known for its dark colour and figuring.  I made this platter by combining the Gidgee and resin in a mould.  Once set, I turned and shaped it on a lathe.  I made the resin transparent so that you could see the unique natural shape of the wood.  The transparent blue resin accentuates the colour of the Gidgee making it stand out.  Australian Gidgee is a beautiful rich colour and displays some fine figuring.  The platter has a resin finish put on it to protect it from spills.  Do NOT put the platter in the dishwasher or soak it in water.  The coating will protect the wood from most things but do not cut anything on the platter as this will damage or destroy the finish.  It is about 38cm in diameter and 3cm deep.
